What is a reference book?
Reference books provide information on various subjects. They are usually used to find a particular piece of information. They are not meant to be read cover to cover. Reference books cover factual information on particular topics/persons/events. Reference books do not circulate and must be used in the library. Examples are: encyclopedias, directories, almanacs, handbooks, dictionaries and atlases. Many reference books are now available in electronic format. Check Mahoney Library’s website for a listing of what is available online (http://www.cse.edu/academics/mahoney-library/research/reference.dot)
