How long can I borrow a book for?
You may go to the Mahoney Library Home Page and link into Services and Borrowing on the left hand side of the screen. Borrowing periods vary in the collection: CSE circulating books may be taken out for 28 days and Reserves as indicated by Instructor. Reference books do not circulate. Renewals can be done once online via CoolCat, the online catalog shared by CSE and FDU or in person at Mahoney Library's Front Desk on the day that the book is due.
Books may be obtained by Intercampus Loans as well as Interlibrary Loans. FDU has the same borrowing priviledges as CSE for intercampus Loans for 28 days with a one time renewal via CoolCat. If renewing in person, you do not have to go to FDU. The front desk at Mahoney Library will be more than happy to handle this process. CSE does not have access to E-Books at Fairleigh Dickinson.
You may submit a book request form under How to Borrow from other Libraries in order to access books from another library via the Interlibrary Loans process. The lending period varies per library. Vale Reciprocal Borrowing and ALA forms are available at the front desk. The Vale Reciprocal borrowing process entitles CSE faculty as well as undergraduate and graduate students to have access to books at most college libraries with the exception of Princeton University. You will also be able to check out a book from most NJ libraries such as the Morris County library with an ALA form and a CSE ID with a Mahoney Library barcode. These forms are available at the Front Desk and must be authorized by CSE Reference Librarian.
Ebooks and Nook ereaders are now part of the Mahoney Library's book collection. Currently, there are 24 titles available on the Nook which can be checked out for 2 weeks. For more information regarding Nooks, go to Research Tools, click on EReaders and EBOOKs and then on the listing of titles under What can I read on the Nook. Also explore our Encyclopedias, Dictionaries and other Reference Tools category on the Mahoney Library website.
