Can the library help me assess my students' information literacy skills?
Certainly we can!
We have already run a number of information literacy assessements on a variety of student groups, such as sociology students, incoming freshmen and others.
It would probably be best to contact our head of user services, Mina Ghajar (firstname.lastname@example.org, ext. 4236) and set up an appointment to discuss what exactly you are looking for. We could, if you like, combine the assessment with a class on bibliographic instruction, in which we go over basic information literacy skills. The assessment itself could provide a teaching opportunity for information literacy, if we allow ourselves time to discuss the questions after they have been answered.
So, there is much that could be done. We just need to establish what your goals are in running an information literacy assessment.
