How can I make this single-spaced?

Go to Home tab of Microsoft Word and find the Paragraph box in the middle. Click the arrow at the bottom right to expand the Paragraph options. Change line spacing to single. If that doesn't take care of the issue, you can backspace your lines together, and then instead of hitting the Enter key to separate them, hit the Shift and Enter keys at the same time. This will give you a single line space between them.
